Mirroring Your Home

Mirroring Your Home

When my wife and I moved into our apartment, we were faced with a challenge; how should we decorate our home? Our apartment measured 60 square meters (645 square feet) and we live on the 8th floor in a 10 story building in Jerusalem, overseeing the Chords Bridge. We wanted to have a magnificent home. A home where we can host parties and invite family and friends. We wanted to set an example - but we were faced with a question; where do we start?

Our building was a newly developed building, so truth be told, it has a good layout. Entering from the front door, we came into the kitchen. The kitchen has a gray counter and white cabinets. Our building was developed by Orthodox Jews so we have a kosher counter which includes two sinks; one for dairy and one for meat. The cabinet space is fine. We could have had more storage space but we managed. Continuing from the kitchen, we have our washing machine and dryer area. I am really not sure what to call that area, as it's a dent in the wall with enough space for our washer machine, dryer, and a cabinet. We then entered our living room.

As a wedding gift, our parents bought us a corner gray couch, a minimalist brown table with gray padded modern chairs, and a bookcase. Our living room started looking more homey, now that it was furnished but we wanted to add a touch of our own. My wife is an art enthusiast. She wanted us to add art and decorations to our walls so we chose fine RENWIL art.

We added an area rug and a coffee table near our corner couch. We also got an antique brass polished floor lamp and placed it by the corner of the living room. My wife found magnificent purple throw pillows on the internet which we added to our couch. Now, our living room began to look like what we always imagined. I added a gray marble clock to the wall across the couch and a framed smoky full-length mirror which we added by the hallway leading to the bathroom.

Decorating a bathroom is always a challenge; on one hand, you want to give the bathroom a distinct look while not overdoing it. We decided to go with a simple yet elegant look. We added a mirror over the sink and bought other accessories from a local store.

Decorating our bedroom was harder than I thought. We had king-size beds and a cushioned grey backboard. We bought a table lamp, a statue, and a teal leather stool. My wife also wanted a pouf, so we bought one with teal finished leather to match the stool.

Home Decor

Yes, it took us months until our apartment was fully decorated. We always added more decorations and tweaked a lot throughout our three years living here. Home decorating is a life long mission; now we are in the process of buying a home. My wife and I are looking forward to the next chapter of home decorating. It's not simple nor easy but it is a lot of fun. My advice to my readers is to invest in decorating their homes and to enjoy the journey. It takes imagination and creativity but is well worth it in the end. It adds a lot to the apartment - and honestly to relationships as well.

Happy Decorating!!!
